If you want everything about 2018 to go even better, filter every decision through these five words from my father: “Set yourself up for success.”
Bingo! Though the words might be easy to say, they can take a lifetime to apply. But since you’re here for a lifetime, why not put in the effort? Your reward will be a sense of joy that too many people let slip by.
What does "Set yourself up for success" look like for you?
For example, if one of your goals is to work out in the morning, it might help to set out your workout clothes the night before—or sleep in your workout clothes. Whatever works. It might also mean refusing to engage in exercises you don't enjoy. Ask me if I miss the treadmill.
Setting yourself up for success can also have a healthy, negative side. As my friend Paul said recently, "Accomplishment can mean not doing something." Not complaining, for example, or not trying to be all things to all people. Success might mean letting go or pulling back.
One thing for sure
The more you set yourself up for success—in big goals and daily decisions—the more second-nature it becomes. That's why I write books, give speeches, and send these Monday-Morning Pep Talks: to help you live life more fulfilled.
It's a brand new year, and it is yours. How will you make the most of the gift? How will you set yourself up for success in 2018?
P.S. Quick friendly request
"Live life more fulfilled" is the new slogan for the Ultimate Reminders brand. It's at the heart of everything I do and the value I provide. If you agree, would you please help me spread the word? Simply share this two-second signup form for Monday-Morning Pep Talk. Thank you. And Happy New Year!
The more you set yourself up for success, the more second-nature it becomes.
